Holland Select Board Unifies Fire Department Appointments on Fiscal-Year Schedule
HOLLAND — July 17, 2018 — Holland Select Board consolidates fire department appointments onto a single fiscal-year schedule. The board voted unanimously at its July 17 meeting to end a longstanding dual-cycle appointment system under which some fire personnel were tied to the chief's term while others ran on a July 1 through June 30 fiscal year; all 19 appointments now run from July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2019. A board member said the sitting fire chief had no explanation for why the split system existed and agreed it was "administratively simpler" to align everyone. The board also authorized signing the state primary warrant, flagged ongoing litter problems at the north boat ramp while still searching for the town's original maintenance agreement with the Commonwealth, and confirmed the Police Department has ordered a no-wake sign to replace a five-mile-per-hour sign rendered inconsistent by bylaws passed at the last town meeting.
