Holland Select Board Elects New Chair, Adopts Surplus Policy, Extends Fire Chief Term

HOLLAND — June 19, 2018 — Holland reorganizes its Select Board and tackles a backlog of appointments and policy adoptions. The board unanimously elected Larry Mandel as its new chair and swore in Jennifer Mott as the town's new outreach coordinator, who will work alongside departing outreach worker Allen Percy through June 30. The board adopted a surplus property disposal policy — modeled on the town of Buckland's — that immediately allows the police department to trade in two cruisers, one valued at $1,500 by Kelley Blue Book but offered $2,500 by a dealer. The fire chief's reappointment was held, with Mandel citing unspecified concerns, and the board instead voted to extend the chief's term 90 days. A $250 no-wake sign was approved for the north basin of Lake Laghetto to resolve a conflict between a posted five-mile-per-hour sign and the town's own lake bylaws. Outgoing Town Administrator Kelly, departing after three years, was praised by board members and a member of the public as someone the town "would all be lost without."
